During the period of lockdown, one of my main reasons of concerns have been surrounding the safety of my senior patients. Specially those who are unable to leave their homes for medical care and struggle with dizziness, decrease balance therefore presenting with a higher risk of falls.

Falls are a major cause of concern among seniors and can lead to dangerous fractures and severe challenges in their mobility and quality of life. Unfortunately, falls are more common than you’d think possible.

Studies have shown that one adult in three fall every year.

90% of hip fractures are due to falls and remains the major cause of fatal injuries in older adults. Surprisingly, falls are not caused by one issue and often happens as a result of several causes working in tandem.

However, before the incidence of falls in older adults, certain causative actions easily increase a predisposition to it. Things like lack of physical exercise, chronic ill health like diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure and changes that come with aging increase susceptibility to walking and loss of mobility.

In order to assist our older population in preventing falls we will be providing 4 weekly webinars on Fall Prevention starting this Wednesday July 9 at 10:00 EST.

The purpose of these sessions is to educate those at risk of falls to identify their major challenges and how to address them to improve safety, overcome mobility challenges and regain independence.

These workshops will be interactive as well as educational and we look forward connecting with you to address concerns and answer your most pressing questions.  Each week we will share practical and simple solutions that you can implement immediately to improve general safety, mobility and independence.
